Volkswagen India on Friday confirmed that the updated Volkswagen Taigun will debut in India on 9 April, marking the company’s second launch of 2026.

The company teased the model ahead of its unveiling, suggesting design updates and enhanced positioning within the mid-size SUV portfolio.

Design tech upgrade

“The new Taigun represents a powerful evolution of everything that has made this SUV loved by enthusiasts,” said Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen India.

“With bolder, more expressive design, best-in-segment technology, and performance our customers expect from Volkswagen, the new Taigun will redefine driving dynamism,” he added.

The company said the updated model carries forward its global design language, with revised character lines and profile changes.

It added that the vehicle has been engineered locally for the Indian market.

India portfolio and market focus

The updated model is likely to receive a new 8-speed automatic transmission, similar to its sibling, the facelifted Skoda Kushaq, as well as styling revisions.

The Taigun is part of Volkswagen India’s portfolio, which includes the Virtus, Tiguan R-Line, Golf GTI, and Tayron R-Line.

First launched in September 2021, the Taigun will continue to compete in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment, taking on rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, the updated Kia Seltos, the Renault Duster, and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

The company said the upcoming launch aligns with its focus on strengthening its SUV presence.
