Stellantis has announced plans to develop a brand-new Jeep model in India, leveraging a platform from Indian automaker Tata Motors, with which it shares a long-standing relationship spanning over two decades in the country.

The move comes as part of the North American giant’s ‘FastLane 2030’ turnaround plan to overhaul business and unlock growth opportunities across key markets around the world.

“The new Jeep model will be developed in India, assembled in India at our Stellantis-Tata JV in India, for the world,” revealed Grégoire Olivier, Head of China and Asia-Pacific, Stellantis, during the company’s Investor Day 2026 presentation.

The new Jeep SUV programme deepens the collaboration between Stellantis and Tata Motors. Earlier in February 2026, the duo had signed an MoU to explore engineering, manufacturing and supply chain collaborations across domestic and global markets.

While plans for the domestic market are unclear, Jeep is eyeing healthy exports with this upcoming model, which will give a significant boost to its overseas shipments from India where it has a 50:50 joint venture manufacturing facility with Tata Motors with up to 220,000 units annual capacity.

Under its collaborations with Tata Motors and China’s Dongfeng, Stellantis has guided for combined export volumes touching 100,000 units by 2028.

India as an export hub

This development depicts India’s strong position for the North American automaker’s broader Asia-Pacific strategy alongside tie-ups with Chinese EV maker Leapmotor and Dongfeng Motor. “We will export those highly competitive cars to more than 50 countries around the world,” he added.

Olivier insisted that Stellantis aims to sell 1 lakh localised units globally by 2028. “We aim to maximise Dongfeng and Tata partnership synergies with 100,000 localised cars sold globally in 2028 and growing.”

This move is aligned with the company’s target of cumulative vehicle and model sales exceeding €60 billion over the next five years. The company has also announced that it plans to bring 60 new models, 50 refreshes by the end of the decade.

This move reinforces India’s position in the global market as leading OEMs such as Stellantis, which operates with Jeep and Citroen in India; Renault, Hyundai, Suzuki and more continue to consider India as a manufacturing hub.
