Nissan Gravite launch postponed

Nissan has delayed the launch of its upcoming budget-friendly seven-seater MPV, the Gravite, in India. The model was earlier scheduled to debut on January 21, but the Japanese carmaker has now delayed the launch event, a TOI report stated. Nissan has not shared a new date yet and says fresh details will be announced soon. The Gravite is expected to be a key product for Nissan as it looks to make a stronger push in India’s mass-market space. Here is what is known so far about the delayed MPV. Nissan had confirmed in December 2025 that its new MPV would be called Gravite and that the full unveiling would take place in January 2026. While the name reveal and teasers created buzz, the company has now decided to push the launch timeline. No official reason has been given for the delay. Nissan has only said that revised launch dates will be shared in the coming days. Nissan Gravita MPV is likely have an estimated price range (ex-showroom): ₹6 lakh to ₹9 lakh. Industry analysts widely expect the Gravite to be priced in this band across its variants when it finally launches.

Nissan Gravite: First look and design highlights

Along with the name announcement last month, Nissan released teaser images showing the Gravite’s design direction. The MPV is based on the same platform as the Renault Triber but is expected to look clearly different. At the front, the Gravite gets a new grille with the Nissan badge and noticeable chrome elements. The headlamps appear redesigned, and the bonnet features a strong hood scoop-like design. From the side, the MPV is likely to come with newly styled alloy wheels and practical roof rails.

At the rear, changes continue with reworked tail-lamps and a revised bumper. Chrome detailing remains prominent, and the Gravite name will be spelled out across the tailgate for a bold finish.

Nissan Gravite: Engine and transmission details

Mechanically, the Gravite is expected to closely follow the Renault Triber. Power is likely to come from a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 72 hp and 96 Nm of torque. Buyers can expect two transmission options: a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT unit. The focus is expected to be on affordability and everyday usability rather than performance.

Why the Gravite matters for Nissan India

The Gravite is set to play an important role in Nissan’s India strategy, especially in the competitive budget MPV segment. The company is looking to expand its presence beyond limited offerings and reach a wider set of buyers.

Beyond the Gravite, Nissan has already confirmed two more products for India. The next launch after the MPV will be the Nissan Tekton, which will be the brand’s version of the Renault Duster. It will take on popular mid-size SUVs and is expected to be a major step in Nissan’s comeback plans for the Indian market.

From Kia Seltos to new Renault Duster, seven new cars launching in India in January 2026

January 2026 marks a busy start for the Indian auto market with up to seven new and updated vehicles launching. Manufacturers like Kia, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Tata, and MG are introducing models with sharper styling, advanced tech, and diverse powertrains, catering to various buyer segments.
