Maruti Suzuki India plans to introduce a full range of electric vehicles across body styles and establish one of the country’s largest charging networks as it targets leadership in the fast-growing EV segment. The company, which will roll out its first electric model, the e Vitara, in 2026, aims to deploy over 1 lakh charging stations by 2030 in partnership with its dealer network and charge point operators, according to a report by PTI.

“Aligning with Suzuki Motor Corporation’s vision, we will be launching many more electric vehicles across body types and segments in the coming years,” Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said at an event on Tuesday.

Takeuchi said the company is entering the EV market with full ecosystem readiness — from charging infrastructure to customer support. The e Vitara, he noted, has been engineered to minimise range anxiety and address key barriers to ownership.

Charging ecosystem

Maruti Suzuki has already set up over 2,000 exclusive charging points across more than 1,100 cities, covering the top 100 EV markets as well as inter-city routes to ensure worry-free travel. The company is also working with 13 charge point operators and aggregators to extend access to public charging stations nationwide.

Takeuchi said the carmaker has invested ₹250 crore in building charging infrastructure across its dealer network and creating its EV app, ‘e for me’, which allows customers to locate and access charging points.

To support its EV expansion, Maruti Suzuki plans to build a 1.5 lakh-strong EV-ready workforce.

The announcements came on the same day the company received a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for the e Vitara, India’s first electric SUV to achieve this certification. The rating bolsters the company’s confidence as it prepares to enter the electric market with its first battery electric vehicle and expand aggressively through the decade.

Maruti Suzuki said its priority now is to “expand the market size of EVs” in India and ensure customers adopt electric mobility with confidence.
