Maruti Suzuki crosses 3-crore domestic sales milestone in 42 years

Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, on Wednesday said it has crossed 3 crore domestic sales in 42 years, setting a new benchmark in India’s automotive

According to the official press release, the company took 28 years and 2 months to achieve its first crore in cumulative sales, followed by the second crore in 7 years and 5 months. The latest crore was added in a record time of just 6 years and 4 months.

Among its extensive portfolio, the Alto led the charts with over 47 lakh units sold, followed by the Wagon R at more than 34 lakh units, and the Swift with over 32 lakh units. Compact SUVs such as the Brezza and Fronx have also joined the list of the company’s top-selling models.

“When I look at the length and breadth of India and think that three crore customers have placed their trust in Maruti Suzuki to realise their dream of mobility, it fills me with humility and gratitude,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.

The journey began with the Maruti 800, the first car sold on 14 December 1983, which marked the start of India’s modern automobile revolution. Over the decades, the company has evolved its line-up in line with changing customer preferences and now offers over 170 variants across 19 models.
