SUV major Mahindra on Wednesday announced that it has sold a whopping 30,000 electric vehicles (EVs) SUVs in just seven months, which accounts for one unit sold every ten minutes. With an ambition to lead the Indian EV market, Mahindra launched XEV 9e and BE 6 last November.
As the automaker kicked off its 2-day event to celebrate the first anniversary of its XEV 9S SUV launch, it said that 65 per cent (nearly 2 out of 3 vehicles) of its Electric Origin SUVs are being driven every single working day. Mahindra, one of the country’s leading two desi EV manufacturers, is aiming to become an international player in the fast-growing electric vehicle market.
“XEV 9e and BE 6 have brought Mahindra a completely new audience. Eight out of ten buyers had never owned or considered a Mahindra vehicle before,” the automaker announced during its 2-day Bengaluru event, ‘Scream Electric’.
The automotive and farm-driven conglomerate unveiled ambitious plans for the road ahead, with Formula E, XEV 9S launch, amongst other electric vehicle-focused themes.
As Mahindra & Mahindra ramps up its EV game, the SUV maker is planning to set up 250 EV charging stations, each with 180 kW, by the end of 2027. As a support infrastructure for the growing EV market in India, Mahindra’s charging station network will entail 1,000 charging points across 250 stations.
