New Delhi: JSW MG Motor India has appointed Alok Kumar as Deputy General Manager – Product Planning, strengthening its product strategy team ahead of the launch of the MG Majestor.

Kumar shared the update on his LinkedIn account, stating that he has joined the company and was associated with the launch of the Majestor, positioned as India’s first D+ segment SUV. The appointment comes at a time when the company is expanding its premium SUV portfolio and preparing to introduce the Majestor to rival models such as the Toyota Fortuner, replacing the MG Gloster in its line-up.

Previous experience

Kumar brings over 14 years of experience at Ford India, where he worked across product planning and programme management functions, including on the Ford Endeavour — an SUV that competed in the same full-size segment. During his tenure at Ford, he was part of the leadership ecosystem that included Anurag Mehrotra and Vinay Raina, who are now part of the leadership team at JSW MG Motor India. Prior to his stint at Ford India, he also worked at VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd in product planning for international markets and New Product Introduction (NPI) and programme management for medium and heavy commercial vehicles, and held roles in NPI and programme management at Tata Motors.

Kumar holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology Mesra and an Executive MBA in International Marketing from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade.
