Tata Motors Punch EVNew Delhi: Electric passenger vehicle (PV) retail sales in India increased 44 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in February 2026 to 13,733 units, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Friday.
However, on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, sales declined 25.65 per cent compared with 18,470 units sold in January 2026, reflecting a typical post-January slowdown in retail demand.
Amongst the players, Tata Motors continued to dominate the electric PV retail segment with sales of 5,568 units in February 2026, marking a 38.51 per cent growth compared with 4,020 units in the same month last year. However, its sales declined 30.46 per cent sequentially from 8,007 units in January.
JSW MG Motor India retained the second position with retail sales of 3,312 units, though the figure represented a 5.10 per cent decline YoY and a 29.58 per cent drop from January.
Mahindra & Mahindra reported the strongest annual growth among major players, with electric PV retail sales rising sharply to 2,913 units compared with 508 units in February 2025, translating into a 473.43 per cent increase. On a MoM basis, the company’s sales fell 20.58 per cent from 3,668 units in January.
C S Vigneshwar, President, FADA, said, “EV retails in February’26 continued to grow on a year-on-year basis across categories, even as overall EV penetration remained largely range-bound due to much faster growth in ICE volumes. The month-on-month softness visible in a few EV categories is largely a reflection of the shorter month and high January base, and does not dilute the structural direction of India’s EV transition.”
Among other manufacturers, Vietnam-based carmaker VinFast recorded retail sales of 384 units in February, while China’s BYD reported 306 units, registering a 10.07 per cent YoY increase and a 32.47 per cent MoM rise.
Hyundai Motor India sold 304 electric cars during the month, a steep decline of 60.77 per cent compared with 775 units in February 2025.
Kia India registered strong annual growth with sales of 295 units, up from 22 units in the year-ago period.
In the luxury EV segment, BMW India sold 245 units, while Mercedes-Benz India reported retail sales of 65 units in February.
Other players included Maruti Suzuki India with 214 units, Tesla India Motors and Energy with 29 units, and Volvo Auto India with 25 units.
