Hyundai Motor India on Thursday announced that its manufacturing facility at Sriperumbudur has been conferred the Tamil Nadu State Level Safety Award by the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH), Government of Tamil Nadu, for its workplace safety performance in 2022.

The award was presented by Thiru C V Ganesan, Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development, Tamil Nadu, along with Anand, Director of Industrial Safety and Health. The recognition was received by Mukundan M S, Vice President – Production, Hyundai Motor India, and Senthil Kumar R M, Associate Vice President – Safety and Wellness.

The award places Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur plant in the Large-Scale Industry (Group A) category and recognises improvements in safety performance, including a reduction in incident frequency rates and strengthened risk management practices.

Hyundai Motor India has operated the Sriperumbudur facility for over three decades. During this period, the plant has implemented safety campaigns, monitoring systems and continuous improvement programmes aimed at enhancing workplace safety standards.

Gopalakrishnan C S, whole-time director and chief manufacturing officer, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said safety was embedded across operations and practised at all levels of the organisation. He added that the award reflected the collective efforts of teams at the facility.

The Tamil Nadu State Safety Awards assess organisations across sectors such as textiles, metals, cement, chemicals, engineering and transport, recognising adherence to statutory compliance, safety systems and employee welfare practices.
