Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma held discussions with Takashi Nakajima, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, regarding the company’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plans in the state, according to an ANI report.

The meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s Office and focused on Honda’s proposal to manufacture its first EV model, the Honda 0 Alpha, at its Tapukara plant. The project involves an investment of approximately ₹1,200 crore and is expected to begin production later this year.

According to the state government, the initiative aligns with Rajasthan’s broader strategy to promote industrial development and support the transition to green mobility.

“In line with the resolve of the successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India for the World’, the unveiling of Honda’s first EV model, Honda 0 Alpha, was done during the meeting with the delegation of Honda Cars India Limited at the Chief Minister’s Office,” Sharma said in a post on social media platform X.

Core for Honda’s EV manufacturing

The CM added that the production facility at Tapukara will become a key hub for Honda’s EV manufacturing in the country, supporting the state’s ambition to expand its role in India’s automotive supply chain.

The investment plan also follows discussions held during Sharma’s visit to Japan in September 2024 as part of preparations for the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit. During the visit, the state government invited Honda to invest in EV manufacturing in Rajasthan.

Sharma said the upcoming EV production line would contribute to economic growth while strengthening the state’s manufacturing ecosystem.

“As part of the preparations for the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit, during the Japan visit in September 2024, we invited Honda Cars India Limited to manufacture and invest in EV models in Rajasthan,” he said.

“I am extremely delighted to share that the production of Honda’s first EV model, Honda 0 Alpha, is set to begin at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan with an investment of ₹1,200 crore.”

Other benefis

The CM also highlighted the project’s potential employment benefits, noting it is expected to generate new job opportunities for local youth and support the development of a skilled workforce in the EV sector.

He added that the initiative reflects the state government’s industrial policies aimed at attracting global manufacturers and strengthening local production capabilities.

According to the government, the project is expected to boost industrial activity in the region while reinforcing Rajasthan’s position as an emerging manufacturing hub in India’s automotive and electric mobility sectors.
