Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles retained its leadership position in the segment with 8,543 units, registering a 77.17 per cent year-on-year growth.New Delhi: Electric passenger vehicle retail penetration in India rose to 5.8 per cent in April 2026, up from 5.1 per cent in March 2026 and 3.7 per cent in April 2025, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Wednesday.
In volume terms, electric PV retail sales increased 75.14 per cent year-on-year to 23,506 units in April 2026, compared with 13,421 units in the same month last year. On a month-on-month basis, sales grew 4.52 per cent from 22,490 units in March 2026.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles retained its leadership position in the segment with 8,543 units, registering a 77.17 per cent year-on-year growth. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd followed with 5,413 units, up 63.98 per cent, while JSW MG Motor India came third with 5,006 units, recording a 32.54 per cent rise.
Among other OEMs, VinFast Auto India reported 1,232 units, while Maruti Suzuki India Ltd registered 1,231 units. Hyundai Motor India Ltd recorded 516 units, down 30.92 per cent year-on-year. BYD India Pvt Ltd posted 469 units, up 17.84 per cent, while Kia India Pvt Ltd reported 342 units, up sharply from 34 units in April 2025.
In the luxury segment, BMW India recorded 300 units, more than doubling from 144 units last year, while Mercedes-Benz reported 104 units, up 19.54 per cent.
FADA data also showed Tesla India Motors and Energy recorded 43 units in April 2026, compared with 49 units in March 2026.
