Citroën Basalt X

Citroën India on Friday announced the launch of its Basalt X range, introducing CARA — billed as India’s first intelligent in-car companion — as part of its ‘Citroën 2.0 – Shift Into the New’ strategy. Its prices will begin at ₹7.95 lakh, with the fully loaded Basalt X starting at ₹12.89 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). Customer deliveries will commence this festive season.

CARA is designed as a multilingual, intuitive, and context-aware in-car assistant. It can respond to natural commands, integrate with vehicle functions such as tyre pressure monitoring and AC pre-conditioning, manage calls and music, provide real-time updates like flight status or weather, and trigger safety responses in emergencies. The system supports 52 languages and can switch mid-conversation.

Features

The Basalt X introduces premium features such as Proxi-Sense PEPS, cruise control with speed limiter, HALO 360° camera with seven viewing modes, TROPICOOL ventilated seats, and auto-dimming electrochromic mirrors. Safety has been enhanced with six airbags as standard, electronic stability programme (ESP), hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring, ISOFIX mounts, and an 85 per cent high-strength steel structure.

Inside, the cabin gets new soft-touch leatherette finishes, gold accents, diffused ambient lighting and a bezel-less 26 cm infotainment display paired with a 17.7 cm digital cluster. Rear-seat comfort is emphasised with class-leading space, smart tilt cushion with adjustable thigh support, winged headrests and tropicalised auto AC.

Powering the Basalt range are Citroën’s 1.2-litre PureTech engines — a naturally aspirated unit and a turbocharged version — available with 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT transmission options.
