Dhurandhar: Saumya opens up on playing Akshaye Khanna’s wife

'Dhurandhar': Saumya Tandon calls working with Akshaye Khanna ‘cherry on the top’; hails Ranveer Singh the most ‘powerful’ actor

Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ has created quite a buzz since its release on 5 December 2025. Among the many actors making noise online for their roles is Saumya Tandon, who has surprised viewers with a fresh and intense performance that stands apart from her usual on-screen image. Best known as Anita Bhabhi from the hit show ‘Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain’, Saumya steps into a new space as she plays Akshaye Khanna’s wife in the film, bringing a different shade of emotion to the story.

Saumya praises Akshaye Khanna’s magnetic screen presence

In her chat with News18 Showsha, she opened up about her time on set and what it felt like to work with two major stars of the industry. Saumya spoke warmly about her admiration for Akshaye Khanna’s craft. She said, “I’m a huge admirer of Akshaye’s work. He’s extremely magnetic when he’s on the screen. It is actually quite a treat to watch him on the screen because he’s just so underplayed. I mean, he’s such a fantastic actor. So it was actually a delight to work with him.”Playing his wife in the film felt special for her. She added, “And it was one of those cherries on the top to be cast as his wife. And to do all the scenes with him because I genuinely admire him.”

Saumya highlights Ranveer Singh’s powerful dedication

Saumya also praised Ranveer Singh for his commitment to the film. She explained, “Apart from that, of course, Ranveer is one of the most powerful actors we have. And this is a very big film for him, and he has really put in his 100 per cent in it.”Even though her part is small, she saw how much effort the actor put into the shoot. She further added, “I mean, I have not really been throughout the film because I have a, you know, like I have small part which I play in it. But I have heard from everybody on the set that it was quite a gruelling shoot. And he has put in his 2000 per cent, and it’s showing. I think he deserves all the love for this.”

Saumya reflects on taking an intense new turn

The actress shared why ‘Dhurandhar’ pushed her into new creative territory, “It is inspired by a true incident, and it is a very intense film. It was something that I hadn’t done before. Usually, even when I did Jab We Met or all the other things while hosting or while doing my TV show, everything was in a very fun zone. So I hadn’t attempted anything very intense.”
