Saudi arabia issues alerts for 8 regions

Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a series of weather alerts, including red, orange and yellow warnings, as a violent weather system moves across the kingdom. The alerts cover eight regions and warn of heavy to light rainfall, strong winds, hail, reduced horizontal visibility, frequent lightning and the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas.

CODE RED: Imminent danger zones

The following areas are under the RED ALERT,the highest warning level. Residents should avoid valleys, flood-prone areas, and unnecessary travel.

Region Affected Governorates Severe Conditions Expected Duration
MADINAH Madinah City, Badr, Khaybar, Wadi Al-Fara, Al-Mahd, Al-Hinakiyah, Al-Ays, Al-Ula, Yanbu Extremely Heavy Rain, Flash Floods, Hailstones, Strong Winds, Near-Zero Visibility, Severe Thunderstorms. Until Morning Hours
NORTHERN BORDERS Rafha, Al-Uwayqiliyah Heavy Rain, Flash Floods, Hailstones, Strong Winds, Complete Loss of Visibility, Severe Thunderstorms. Duration Specified by NCM

ORANGE ALERT: High-risk warnings

These areas face high-risk conditions, including moderate to heavy rain and significant hazards. Drive with extreme caution and secure all outdoor belongings.

Region Affected Governorates Conditions Expected Duration
HA’IL Al-Hait, As-Suleimi, Al-Ghazalah, Ash-Shinan, Baqaa, Sumaira Moderate to Heavy Rain, Flash Floods, Strong Winds, Near-Zero Visibility, Thunderstorms. Until Morning Hours
QASSIM Buraidah, Unaizah, Ar Rass, Oqla Al Suqour, Riyadh Al Khabra, Al Bukayriyah Moderate Rain, Flash Floods, Active Winds, Low Visibility, Thunderstorms. Morning until Noon
TABUK Umluj Moderate Rain, Very Strong Winds, Low Visibility, Flash Floods, Lower Temperatures. Until 11:00 AM

YELLOW ALERT: Caution advised

Conditions are expected to be light but hazardous, primarily due to reduced visibility and active thunderstorms.

  • Makkah Region (Al-Ardiyat): Expect Light Rain, Active Winds, Reduced Visibility, and Thunderstorms from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
  • Asir Region (Namas, Tanomah, Al-Majardah, Bariq): Anticipate Light Rain, Active Winds, and Reduced Visibility from Noon until 8:00 PM.
  • Al Baha Region (Al Baha, Al Mandaq, Bani Hassan, Qilwah, Al Hijrah): Expect Light Rain, Active Winds, and Thunderstorms from Noon until Evening. Be advised of sudden drops in visibility.

This weather event is important because it combines several hazardous elements at once: intense rainfall that can cause sudden valley run-off and flash floods, strong gusts that reduce visibility and produce dust/sand squalls in some regions, and lightning that raises the risk for outdoor workers and travelers. Together these factors can disrupt road travel, damage infrastructure, and create dangerous conditions in rural and urban areas alike. Regional forecasts and emergency services are preparing for rapid response. Go to Source
