Details of over 5.17L waqf properties uploads on central site as deadline ends

.

NEW DELHI: With over 5.17 lakh property uploads at final count, the UMEED central portal for management of waqf properties closed for the process on Dec 6 night, as per the six-month deadline set out under the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.Those who failed to upload within the stipulated timeframe will have to now approach the waqf tribunal, and the latter, only if convinced of the reasons for delay in uploading details, may give an extension of up to six months. However, while making it clear that there can be no extension of the deadline, minority affairs minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday said that as a “humanitarian and facilitative” measure for those who were unable to register, no penalties or strict action will be initiated for the next three months, enabling those who may have not been able to upload due to genuine reasons to approach the tribunal. As of Saturday, of all the 5,17,040 property uploads, a little over 2.16 lakh properties have been approved by designated approvers, around 2.13 lakh submitted by ‘makers’ and remain in the pipeline for approval, and 10,869 rejected during verification. There was a sudden surge in uploads after Supreme Court on Dec 1 refused to extend the timeframe for mandatory registration of all waqf properties, including ‘waqf by user’, on the UMEED portal. The highest number of property uploads have been initiated by Uttar Pradesh (86,345), followed by Maharashtra (62,939) and Karnataka (58,328). A big state like West Bengal has uploaded 23,086 properties. Bengal which has been strongly opposing the amended waqf law, only in Nov reportedly issued directions to state authorities to adhere to the deadline and upload details of waqf properties. There have been zero uploads from the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Sikkim and Nagaland. However, there have been 681 property uploads from Assam, 393 from Manipur and 13 from Meghalaya. Ladakh and Goa have also registered zero uploads.Sharing these details on X, the ministry said that “in the final count, the momentum significantly accelerated as the deadline approached. Many review meetings, training workshops, and high-level interventions, even at the secretary level, injected renewed pace into the process, making the upload surge in the last hours.”The conclusion of this phase marks a significant milestone in bringing transparency, efficiency and unified digital management to waqf properties across India under the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development (UMEED) Act framework. It aims at creating a digital inventory of all Waqf properties that will be assigned a unique ID number, it said. Go to Source
