MAGA reporter claims he was ‘assaulted’ by 'violent leftists' at anti-ICE rally, says protesters tried to ‘steal his phone’

MAGA-aligned reporter Nick Sortor says he was attacked by protesters at an anti-ICE demonstration in New Orleans. He claimed several people tried to assault him and steal his phone during a confrontation.Sortor described the incident on X, where he posted a video and a detailed account of what he said happened while he was covering a protest against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He said, “Here’s what led up to a mob of anti-ICE ‘protestors’ attacking me in New Orleans.”In his posts, Sortor accused the demonstrators of violence. “These violent leftists should be in JAIL CELLS NOT assaulting journalists on the street,” he said. Sortor claimed the situation escalated after a speaker at the event allegedly called US troops “racist”. He wrote, “Just days after a terrorist shot two National Guardsmen in DC, a speaker declared troops are ‘RACIST’.” Sortor said he asked the group for an example of racist troops and that this triggered the attack. “For that, I was assaulted and they attempted to STEAL my phone,” he said.According to his account, he was almost struck from behind. “And of course, another man attempted to come up behind me and strike me with a stick, but luckily, he was stopped,” he claimed.Sortor frequently covers protests and publishes content aimed at a conservative audience. He said the incident reflects an increase in left-wing violence. “The left are becoming more and more violent every day. This HAS to stop,” he said. There has been no independent confirmation of the full sequence of events, and no arrests have been reported in connection with the confrontation. Sortor’s video shows a tense exchange and several individuals surrounding him.The protest in New Orleans was part of a demonstration criticising ICE policies and federal immigration enforcement on people of colour living on American soil. Sortor said he was at the event to ask only questions.
