Perez Hilton gave a strong reaction after Erika Kirk, the wife of Charlie Kirk, said that America does not have a “gun problem,” even though her husband was shot and killed in public. Erika Kirk spoke at The New York Times DealBook Summit on December 3 with host Andrew Ross Sorkin. The event was streamed live. During the talk, Sorkin asked her about gun violence in America. He also reminded viewers that Charlie Kirk always supported the Second Amendment.Erika Kirk said she still believes guns are not the real issue. She said the bigger problem is people who choose violence. Her answer became a major talking point. On December 4, Perez Hilton wrote about this in his blog and disagreed with her view. He said gun safety is about simple steps that save lives. He also said people can care about both mental health and gun safety at the same time.

Perez Hilton challenges Erika Kirk’s comments on gun violence

During the interview, Erika Kirk shared memories about her late husband and spoke about the day he died. When Sorkin asked her about gun violence, she said the problem was not guns. She said it was a human problem and a mental problem. Erika Kirk said:“What I’ve realized through all of this is that you can have individuals that will always resort to violence. And what I’m afraid of is that we are living in a day and age where they think violence is the solution to them not wanting to hear a different point of view. That’s not a gun problem, that’s a human, deeply human, problem. That is a soul problem, that is a mental, that is a very deeper issue.”Perez Hilton quoted her words and then pushed back on her view. He wrote that he was not shocked by her statement “given her beliefs.” But he also explained why he disagreed. In his blog, he said:“It’s about saving as many lives as possible, and it’s not about taking guns away. It’s about safety and common sense. Prevention, people! Prevention matters, and you can care about both the mental health problems AND gun safety. They are not mutually exclusive.”He said the goal of the gun safety movement is to lower the chance of such shootings.

Erika Kirk opens up about forgiving Charlie Kirk’s assassination

Later in the talk, Erika Kirk spoke about the moment she publicly forgave the man who killed her husband. She first shared this message at Charlie Kirk’s memorial. She said she did not plan that part of the speech. She said:“That part I specifically left open. If you look at my speech notes, that part I prayed on so heavily beforehand, and that was a game-time, exact second-to-second moment. That was not something pre-planned. That was not because I’m not going to say something I don’t truly believe.”She also said:“And when I prayed on it, I knew that the Lord would really press it on my heart. And if I was meant to say it because I truly meant it and believed it, then I was going to say it. But I was not going to pre-plan that.”She added that forgiveness did not mean she thought the act was okay. She said her husband also believed in forgiveness.
