Karisma was bleeding after a dress pricked her, yet REFUSED to postpone

Karisma Kapoor was bleeding after a metal dress pricked her while shooting THIS Salman Khan film, yet REFUSED to postpone: ‘I spotted red coming on to the gold dress’

Karisma Kapoor, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars of the 1990s, was known for her charm, talent, and professionalism. Among her many hits, David Dhawan’s ‘Biwi No.1’ starring Salman Khan and Sushmita Sen, remains a fan favourite. But behind the laughter and song sequences, an unforgettable incident on set recently came to light, showing just how committed she was to her craft.

Costume designer recalled bleeding during the shoot

Costume designer Ashley Rebello shared the memory of a tense moment while filming a song for Biwi No.1. In a chat with Galatta India, he said, “We were doing a song in Biwi No.1 where I gave Karisma a metal dress, and while she was doing her steps, the metal pricked her, and she was bleeding throughout. I spotted red coming on to the gold dress.”

The crew suggested postponing the shoot to next day

As soon as the bleeding was noticed, the team stopped the shoot to attend to Karisma. The choreographer asked if they could resume the next day, but the actor had a different plan.“Karisma said no, it’s a full set. Such a professional person… We shot and we finished the whole thing, and then I changed the outfit the next day,” Ashley recalled. To keep the shoot going, the crew placed a bandage under the metal dress, covered it with a skin-coloured garment, and then wore the metal dress over it, allowing them to complete the scene that same day. When Ashley later asked Karisma why she hadn’t alerted anyone sooner, she said, “Ashley, at that time, I didn’t think this would happen. I didn’t even realise when this happened”. Ashley added, “She’s such a dedicated actress.” This incident underlined Karisma’s professionalism and commitment to her work, even under difficult circumstances.
