UAE has made it easier than ever for visitors to extend their stay with flexible visa policies and convenient online services. Whether you are in the UAE for tourism, business, family visits, or other purposes, understanding the visa extension rules, fees, and procedures is essential. This guide provides a clear, step-by-step overview to help you extend your UAE visit visa safely and legally.

Who can extend a UAE Visit Visa?

Not all visas are eligible for extensions, so it’s important to check your visa type first. Most visit visas, including those for tourism, attending a mission, exploring business opportunities, visiting a relative, medical treatment, studying, or training, allow extensions within the UAE.Residents of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries can usually renew their visit visa once, subject to approval. The duration and terms of an extension depend on your visa type, the issuing authority, and how you entered the country.Important: Extensions must be applied for before your current visa expires. Dubai no longer offers a 10 day grace period, and overstaying results in fines of AED50 per day.

How to apply for a UAE Visit Visa extension

You can apply for a visa extension without leaving the UAE. There are two main methods: online and in person.1. Online extensionThe online process is simple and convenient:

  1. Log in to the ICP Smart Services Portal or mobile app using UAE Pass.
  2. Search for the Tourist Visa Extension or relevant service.
  3. Fill in your personal, travel, and passport details accurately.
  4. Upload required documents, including a copy of your passport and current visa.
  5. Pay the applicable fees securely online.

2. In person extensionYou can also visit an Amer Centre or Customer Happiness Centre to extend your visa:

  1. Take an automated queue ticket and wait your turn.
  2. Submit your completed application with all required documents.
  3. Pay the service fee at the counter.
  4. If your visa was arranged through a sponsor or travel agency, they may submit the extension on your behalf.

There is no grace period.Residents with Golden or Green Visas, and their dependents, may stay up to 180 days after expiry. Other residents typically have a grace period of 30–60 days. All fines must be settled before applying for a new visa or leaving the UAE.

  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months.
  • Avoid last minute applications to prevent fines.
  • Always use an authorized visa service provider.
  • Confirm your visa type allows one or more extensions.
