Garlic is one of the most common ingredients used in Indian kitchens, whether in vegetables, dals, curries or non-vegetarian dishes. Apart from enhancing flavour, garlic is also packed with nutrients and offers several health benefits.

Many health experts even suggest eating it raw in the morning, as it helps prevent digestive issues. However, while garlic is beneficial, its strong smell often lingers on the hands long after chopping, which many people find unpleasant. If you too struggle with this problem, here are some simple hacks to remove garlic odour from your hands.

Baking Soda And water: Mix baking soda with a little water and rub it on your hands before rinsing. Baking soda acts as a natural deodoriser and helps neutralise strong odours.

Coffee Powder: Rub a small amount of coffee powder onto your hands, leave it for a few seconds, and then wash with water. The rich aroma of coffee helps mask and remove garlic smell.

Stainless Steel Trick: Run your hands under lukewarm water while rubbing your fingers gently against a stainless steel surface, such as the back of a spoon, knife (opposite the blade), or a steel bowl. The steel binds to the sulphur compounds from garlic, removing the smell.

Kitchen Sink Method: Wash your hands with soap and water, then rub your fingers along the stainless steel sink or tap. This helps eliminate the remaining sulphur compounds that cause odour.

Lemon Juice Or Vinegar: Apply a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar on your hands, leave for a short while, and rinse. Their natural acidity neutralises garlic odour effectively.

Salt And Toothpaste: A quick scrub with salt and a little toothpaste also helps remove stubborn garlic smell in minutes.

Prevention Tips: The simplest way to avoid garlic odour is by wearing gloves while chopping. After using any of these remedies, apply moisturiser or hand cream to keep your skin soft and prevent dryness.
