Tensions escalated in Sri Lanka after severe floods and landslides struck on Wednesday night, impacting nearly 10,000 people. According to officials, the disaster was triggered by the sudden change in the river’s course and rising water levels, which unleashed widespread havoc. The death toll has reached 40, while around 60 people are still reported missing. The Meteorological Department stated that a red alert had been issued in advance to minimize collateral damage. The floods caused massive destruction, forcing many families out of their homes and into evacuation camps. Emergency teams quickly reached the affected regions, providing food, medical aid, and essential supplies. Schools and universities have been ordered shut until further notice.
