Ukraine proposed a sweeping defence package worth $100 billion for US weapons, to be funded by Europe, as part of its push for long-term American security guarantees once a peace accord with Russia is reached, according to reports.

A Financial Times report, citing a document, stated that Kyiv also proposed a separate $50 billion deal with US companies for joint drone production.

“Ukraine will promise to buy USD 100 billion of US weapons financed by Europe,” the document says, according to the report. In return, Kyiv demanded firm US security guarantees as part of the post-peace deal.

The proposals were circulated among European partners ahead of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s scheduled talks at the White House with President Donald Trump, according to four people familiar with the matter.

During the high-profile White House summit attended by Zelenskyy and several European allies, just days after the Alaska talks, Trump assured the Ukrainian President that Washington would play a role in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security under any eventual peace settlement with Russia.

However, the details of the commitment remain unclear.

On the other side, Ukrainian officials have also not provided a detailed list of the weapons under negotiation, but they have repeatedly stressed the need for at least 10 US-made Patriot air defence systems to safeguard cities and vital infrastructure, along with additional missile systems and other equipment.

The proposed $50 billion drone partnership with American firms also lacks clarity, with no specifics on how funds would be divided between purchases and investment.

However, Kyiv views the plan as a crucial step in boosting its domestic defence sector through collaboration with Washington.

Meanwhile, Trump said on Monday that decisions on a potential ceasefire and the status of Ukrainian territory currently occupied by Russia should be settled directly in talks between the two leaders of the warring nations.

The White House discussions, which also included European allies, took place shortly after Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a U.S. military base in Alaska.

At that meeting, Trump appeared sympathetic to Moscow’s insistence that Kyiv make territorial concessions, with Russia now holding about 20 per cent of Ukrainian land.

“We’re going to let the president go over and talk to the president and we’ll see how that works out,” Trump said during his talks with Zelenskyy and European leaders.

Both Trump and Zelenskyy also voiced optimism about the possibility of three-way negotiations involving Washington, Moscow, and Kyiv.
