In a heartfelt revelation, Farhan Akhtar opened up about the emotional scars his mother, Honey Irani, endured after being overlooked for writing credit on the iconic film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. This oversight strained relationships with the Chopra family, disrupting cherished childhood connections.

No one can forget the iconic classic SRK and Kajol starrer Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and the reason are plenty, starting from it’s wonderful performances, songs, to the script. Now the actor-director Farhan Akhtar has opened up on his mom Honey Irani getting hurt as she didn’t received writinng credit for the romantic movie. While Aditya Chopra has long been credited as the sole writer of the film, it has been widely reported that Honey Irani, who was deeply involved in the screenplay stage, never received the acknowledgement she believed she deserved. This reportedly prompted her decision to never again collaborate with either Yash Chopra or Aditya.

Farhan Akhtar opens up about family pain and broken bonds

Promoting his film ‘120 Bahadur’, Farhan Akhtar shared with Mid-Day that the controversy was deeply hurtful for his family because of their close personal relationship with the Chopras. He described the situation as “heart-breaking” not just professionally, but personally, since Honey Irani and the Chopra family were almost like one extended household. Farhan recalled that he grew up with Aditya and Uday Chopra and that the rift left him emotionally shaken. “It was extremely upsetting because they were people I’d known my whole life,” he stated. The episode strained childhood friendships and created emotional distance that took years to heal.

Letting go after decades of silence and hurt

Years later, Farhan says he has chosen peace over resentment. According to him, all parties involved have gracefully moved on and accepted the past, allowing memories of bitterness to be replaced by respect. “Things happen between people who love each other. At some point you need to forgive and forget,” he reflected, acknowledging how relationships can be challenged even within families. Despite the sadness, Farhan emphasised that the healing process has taken priority and the bond between both families continues to matter deeply to him.Coming to the work front, Farhan Akhtar’s ‘120 Bahadur’ is getting highly positive reviews.
