Delhi pollution: State government orders work from home; govt, private offices to function at 50% strength

NEW DELHI: Amid rising air pollution, the Delhi government on Monday issued an advisory for it’s employees, private offices to operate with 50 per cent on-site staff, with the remainder continuing to work from home. The step follows directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management and aims to limit exposure while reducing vehicular emissions in the capital, reported AIR.Delhi environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, “Under GRAP III, the government is proactively implementing pollution control measures with intensified focus on public health and air quality protection.” He added that staggered office timings have already been mandated for all government offices, including those under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), until February 2026. MCD offices will operate from 8:30AM to 5:00PM, while Delhi government offices will function from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM.For Government Offices under GNCTD – all administrative secretaries and heads of departments shall attend office regularly with not more than 50 per cent staff strength physically present in office. The remaining 50 per cent staff shall work from home, provided that the administrative secretaries and heads of departments can call officers/officials to office, as required to ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential and emergency public services. For Private Offices functioning within NCT of Delhi – all private offices functioning within NCT of Delhi shall operate with not more than 50 per cent staff physically attending the workplace. The remaining staff shall mandatorily work from home.Over 2,000 enforcement personnel from multiple agencies are deployed to ensure compliance with pollution control protocols, Sirsa said. Private offices have also been urged to communicate these guidelines across all branches and implement them effectively.“The government will continue to issue all required directions to tackle air pollution and minimize its impact,” he added.(With inputs from agencies)
