Who is crime blogger Gursewak Bal, one of the two Indian-origin Canadians being extradited to US in drug trafficking, murder case?

Gursewak Bal used to run a crime website in Canada called The Dirty Newz which investigators said was being used by gangs to escalate violence.

Punjabi-origin Gursewak Bal is one of the two Indian-origin Canadians charged in a huge cross-border drug and murder case investigated by the FBI. An FBI witness was killed this year in January who was supposed to testify against Ryan Wedding, a former Olympian who turned into a drug lord. The murder investigation took FBI to Bal, the founder of The Dirty Newz, a crime website. The other Indian-Canadian arrested and charged in the case is ‘cocaine lawyer’ Deepak Paradkar, a famous attorney of Canada. They both were involved in the killing of the FBI witness in a Colombo restaurant.

Operation Giant Slalom

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the FBI were working in the operation called ‘Operation Giant Slalom’ to target a Mexican cartel-linked criminal network. Ryan Wedding is the alleged leader of the network but he is still at large and is wanted in US and Canada on separate charges. Who is Gursewak Bal? How is he linked to drug cartel?

Bal helped Ryen Wedding set up the killing of the FBI witness and was paid a huge amount of money to keep his mouth shut. The 31-year-old took $10,000 from Wedding to post the photo of the person to be killed on his site so that he could be located. “this guy single handedly (ratted) out one of the strongest underworld networks that this (world) has seen. Good chance he’ll never be found again,” Bal posted on Instagram. Three months later, the man was shot in the head five times in Colombia. The Dirty Newz, which was eventually shut down, was being used for gang violence, the investigators said. “Gangs would post things on it to escalate violence with others.”

‘His platforms amplified pro-Khalistan propaganda’

The Coalition of Hindus of North America, Canada reacted to Bal’s arrest and accused him of spreading hindu hatred. “His platforms amplified pro-Khalistan, anti-Hindu propaganda, amplifying disinformation attacking Hindu organizations to glorifying Khalistani rallies with violent imagery,” the organization wrote.
