Punjab govt to launch statewide blood donation drive on November 25, dedicated to the martyrdom of Guru Sahib

The 350th Martyrdom Anniversary commemorations of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji are set to be held from November 23 to November 25. This includes a series of state-level events that combine spiritual observance with social and environmental initiatives. The closing day at Sri Anandpur Sahib will mark the completion (bhog) of the Akhanda Paath Sahib in the presence of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, symbolising the culmination of three days of continuous prayers in honour of the Guru’s supreme sacrifice. The plans incorporate multiple humanitarian and community-oriented activities for the final day, including a statewide blood donation drive, to promote the principle of service to humanity. Officials described the campaign as an effort to embody the Guru’s teachings on compassion and selflessness. An environmental program involving the plantation of 3.50 lakh saplings across Punjab will also be organised. According to government representatives, the initiative aims to connect the younger generation with the message of preserving nature and respecting creation.Spiritual programmes, including Gurbani Kirtan and activities at the Sarbat da Bhala Unity Centre, will take place throughout the day. A large-scale organ donation pledge drive is also planned to encourage public participation in life-saving initiatives. The commemorations will conclude in the evening with a drone show at Virasat-e-Khalsa in Anandpur Sahib, depicting themes of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom, the Khalsa heritage, and Punjab’s cultural legacy. Officials said the three-day observance sought to highlight Sikhism’s enduring values of sacrifice, service, environmental care, and collective welfare.
