Utah shooting leaves 2 police officers dead, 1 wounded, authorities say

Two police officers were fatally shot in Tremonton, Utah, during a domestic dispute call. A sheriff’s deputy and police dog were also injured

Two police officers were shot and killed in a northern Utah community, and a man was arrested, authorities said Monday.

On Sunday, cops responded to a complaint about a domestic dispute in a Tremonton neighbourhood. A sheriff’s deputy and a police dog that responded were both injured and hospitalised in fair condition, according to authorities.

After the policemen were shot, witnesses convinced the suspect to down his firearm, according to authorities. SWAT troops arrived to evacuate the house and ensure there was no additional threat, according to authorities.

“Upon arrival, they immediately began taking fire,” Police Detective Crystal Beck of neighbouring Brigham City told reporters earlier. “They requested additional units. And then stopped answering their radio.”

The man was arrested on charges of aggravated murder, police said in a news release. His name was not immediately released.

Tremonton, which has about 10,000 people, is about 75 miles (121 kilometers) north of Salt Lake City.
