Vivek Oberoi recalls moment he felt he became Bollywood star

Vivek Oberoi recalls moment he felt he became a Bollywood 'star'; says, '1000-2000 log aa gaye'

Vivek Oberoi vividly remembers the day it all changed while shooting ‘Saathiya’—a sea of fervent fans erupted with chants for his character, Chandu Bhai. With director Shaad Ali urging him to step forward and embrace the moment, the exhilarating noise of the crowd was a welcome affirmation of his newfound fame.

Vivek Oberoi, who will be seen next in ‘Mastiii 4’, opened up about the ups and downs in his professional life. The actor recently shared about the moment when he first felt that he had ‘arrived’ and become a star in Bollywood.

Vivek Oberoi shares the first time he felt like a star

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Vivek shared that he was shooting for ‘Saathiya’ with Rani Mukerji on the railway track behind Bandra’s Gaiety Galaxy. He added that the actress was doing a movie after a long time; however, “she was still a star. I was a newcomer.”Vivek added that they started shooting for the film in the morning, and that by 12-1 pm, people started crowding. He recalled them saying, “Shooting chal rahi, Rani Mukerji hai, Chandu bhai… Arey, yeh toh Chandu Bhai hai (Shooting is going on. Rani Mukerji is there, and Chandu Bhai… he is Chandu Bhai).”The actor stated that by lunch break time, “1000-2000 log aa gaye, poori security, nightmare ho gaya tha (1000-2000 people came, it became a nightmare for the security).”Oberoi then revealed that director Shaad Ali made him sit in the makeup van while everyone was shouting, “Chandu bhai Chandu bhai…”He recalled that the police had also arrived but not before Shaad Ali opened the door of his van and asked him to greet the fans. The ‘Prince’ actor said, “Shaad ne makeup van khola, and he said, ‘Come out and step pe khada reh and wave at everybody.’ (Shaad opened the make-up van and he said, ‘Come out and stand on the steps and wave at everybody’).”The actor said, “I realized ki achha ye bhi karna hai (I realized, ‘Oh, I have to do this as well’).”He said, “Toh main aaya, khada hua, and wave kiya; jo sound eruption hua na, that was incredible. And Shaad mere saath me khada tha bagal mein; he is like a brother to me. Toh usne mujhse kaha, ‘Tu star ban gaya mere bhai.’ I was still dazed (so I came, stood, and waved; the eruption of applause that happened was incredible. And Shaad was standing next to me; he is like a brother to me. So he said to me, ‘You have become a star, my brother.’ I was still dazed).”For the unversed, Vivek Oberoi played the character of Chandrakant aka Chandu in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Company’.
