Dhurandhar: Here’s the REASON why Aditya split film

‘Dhurandhar’: Here’s the REAL REASON why Aditya Dhar split Ranveer Singh’s film into two parts

‘Dhurandhar’ stars Ranveer Singh as a fierce spy, initially planned as a single film but now split into two due to its extensive footage and story complexity. The first part releases in December 2025, with the second expected in mid-2026, to do justice to its vast scale and narrative depth.

The makers of Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film have opted to launch ‘Dhurandhar’ as a two-part series. Initially met with disbelief, this plan has now been validated by multiple trusted sources within the industry. Recent reports have also surfaced, shedding light on the primary motivation behind this strategic choice.

Story and scale demand a larger canvas

According to Bollywood Hungama, the characters and world have a lot of scope, and hence, Dhar shot for all the sequences by his conviction. He thought that he would wrap up the entire film in one part, as all films have the journey of improvisation on the set. However, when he watched the entire footage, it became difficult to wrap up all the conflicts in a single film. It’s a film which organically transformed into a two-parter based on the demand of the story. It was in the first week of October that Aditya decided to split the film into two parts, as a film of this scale warranted showcasing in the longer format. The film was not designed as a two-parter, but destined to be a two-parter. Both the films will have a proper start, middle and end as every beat of the story is a climax in itself, bringing in an adrenaline rush.

Avoiding a rushed narrative

Reportedly, a one-part film would have looked like a rushed job. The makers are confident that the hook of the first ‘Dhurandhar’ film will keep the audience waiting for a lot more. The first part will set up the story, and the turmoil, which all explodes in the sequel, will deliver 2x the violence and edge-of-the-seat moments. In a nutshell, with so many exciting characters, it’s a story that can’t be told in a single film.

A star-studded cast brings the story to life

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film ‘Dhurandhar’ features a stellar ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh in the lead role, alongside notable actors Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam (based on Chaudhry Aslam Khan), Akshaye Khanna as Rehman Dakait, R. Madhavan portraying National Security Advisor Ajay Sanyal (inspired by Ajit Doval), and Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal from ISI. The film also includes Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi in supporting roles. Dhurandhar is a spy action thriller inspired by true events related to India’s intelligence and counterterrorism operations and is slated to release on December 5, 2025. Go to Source
