NEW DELHI: JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar on Thursday took oath as the chief minister of Bihar for the 10th time at a grand ceremony held at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan.”I congratulate my father for taking the oath as the CM the 10th time. The public gave us more than expected. I thank and also congratulate the public,” Kumar said while taking oath. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda and several chief ministers from the ruling alliance marks the formation of the new NDA government following its landslide victory in the 2025 Assembly elections.Along with Nitish Kumar, several other ministers from NDA partners were also sworn in.

Nitish Kumar had resigned on Wednesday before staking claim to form a fresh government with NDA support. He was elected as the leader of both the JD(U) Legislature Party and the NDA Legislature Party during meetings with newly elected MLAs.BJP’s Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha have been chosen as the leader and deputy leader of the BJP Legislature Party and are expected to continue in deputy CM roles.This is the fourth time Gandhi Maidan has hosted Nitish Kumar’s oath-taking ceremony, a venue closely associated with major political events in the state’s history. Elaborate security arrangements were made at the event, where lakhs of supporters gathered.The NDA swept 202 of the 243 seats in the state polls, securing a three-fourths majority. The election was seen as a crucial test for the 74-year-old Kumar who has remained central to Bihar’s politics for two decades. He first became chief minister in 2005 and has held the position continuously except for a brief nine-month period in 2014-15.The elections, held on November 6 and 11, saw a record voter turnout of 67.13%, with women voters surpassing men in participation. The results were announced on 14 November.
