Ramayan 2 likely to go on floors in January

Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s Ramayan 2 likely to go on floors in January

Nitesh Tiwari’s epic Ramayan, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, is gearing up for its second installment, with filming set to begin in January 2026. The first part is slated for a 2026 release, followed by the second in 2027. Despite scheduling challenges due to lead actors’ commitments and Sunny Deol’s personal situation, pre-production is underway for the massive project.

Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayan starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Ravie Dubey, Kunal Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Vivek Oberoi is being hailed as the biggest Indian film ever mounted, and the makers are now gearing up to begin work on its second installment. According to industry sources, the shoot for Ramayan 2 is likely to commence in January 2026, just weeks after the principal cast finishes their current professional and personal commitments. The first part of this massive two-part retelling of the Indian epic has already been completed and is gearing up for release in 2026, with the second part expected to arrive in 2027. The scale of the project spread across years of planning, world-building, extensive VFX and a star-studded ensemble has generated unprecedented anticipation both in India and internationally. With Nitesh Tiwari at the helm, confidence within the trade remains high that Ramayan will redefine cinematic spectacle in India. The filming for the second part was to start in August of 2025 but the shooting schedule has been shifted primarily due to the packed calendars of the film’s lead stars. Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram, is currently caught up with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War in Mumbai and the shooting moves to Italy in December for about 20 days, it was earlier supposed to be a 45 day shoot. Also the release date of the film has now moved to Independence Day weekend in August. Yash, who essays the role of Ravana, is tied up with the filming of Geetu Mohandas’ Toxic and the film is slated to release on 19th March of 2026 .The producers had to issue a statement to re-confirm the date as rumours about delay in the shoot was doing the rounds. , Adding to this is Sunny Deol’s personal situation. The actor, who portrays Lord Hanuman in the film, is currently prioritising the health of his father, veteran actor Dharmendra, who has been unwell. With family taking precedence, Sunny is expected to resume full-fledged work only after ensuring stability at home and completing his pending assignments.Despite these scheduling hurdles, the team behind Ramayan is confident that January is the ideal window to bring the entire cast together for the mammoth Part 2 shoot, says a source close to the development. Pre-production work, including set design, costume detailing, and VFX planning, is already in motion to ensure the team hits the ground running once filming begins.
