The Taj Story crashes by 80 % on Monday

Paresh Rawal’s ‘The Taj Story’ crashes by 80 % on Monday to collect Rs 13 lakh

In a shocking turn of events, Paresh Rawal’s ‘The Taj Story’ faced an 80% plunge in box office sales on Monday, following a strong showing over the weekend. With total earnings hitting Rs 17.67 crore and securing profitability, the film has performed respectably against its low budget. However, this dramatic fall hints that the film’s theatrical journey may soon conclude.

Paresh Rawal’s The Taj Story witnessed a sharp decline at the box office on Monday, crashing by a massive 80% after showing some stability through its second weekend. The film, which had collected a decent Rs 65 lakh on Sunday, managed to bring in only Rs 13 lakh on Monday, marking a steep fall that indicates the end of its strong hold at the ticket windows. Despite this heavy drop, the film’s second weekend performance of Rs 1.60 crore had suggested that audiences were still curious about its bold and controversial narrative. The Paresh Rawal starrer has earned Rs 11 crore in the first week and Rs 6.67 crore in the second week, taking its total to an impressive Rs 17.67 crore. Considering its modest budget of Rs 7–8 crore, The Taj Story has already turned profitable, emerging as one of the more successful mid-budget films of the year. The second-week drop of around 40% had given trade circles hope that the film would enjoy a healthy theatrical run. However, Monday’s dramatic fall tells a different story. The Taj Story revolves around a courtroom drama triggered by a petition filed by Rawal’s character, a Taj Mahal guide who questions the authenticity of the monument: who built it, why it was built, and whether it is truly a mausoleum. The controversial premise has played a crucial role in drawing audiences initially. But as the third week began, footfalls dipped significantly, signalling that the buzz around the film may be waning.Meanwhile, Paresh Rawal is set for a busy lineup. His next theatrical outing will be Priyadarshan’s Bhoot Bangla, co-starring Akshay Kumar. Additionally, fans of the iconic Hera Pheri franchise can rejoice as Rawal, Suniel Shetty, and Akshay Kumar are expected to reunite for Hera Pheri 3, with filming likely to begin in 2026 now that the earlier issues between the actor and the producers have been resolved.
