NEW DELHI: Kumhrar is set for an intense three-way contest as BJP’s Sanjay Kumar, Congress candidate Indradeep Chandravanshi and JanSuraj’s Krishna Sinha await the counting of votes on Wednesday. Polling has concluded with the fate of all candidates now locked in the electronic voting machines. The constituency, which forms a key part of Patna’s urban political landscape, recorded a strong turnout, underscoring its consistent electoral engagement and importance in state politics.

A poll of polls released on Tuesday suggested that the NDA may be on track to form the government with around 148 seats. The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan is projected to secure about 88 seats, while other parties may win around 7. According to People’s Pulse, the NDA could win between 133 and 159 seats, the Mahagathbandhan 75–101, Jan Suraaj 0–5, and other parties 2–8. The Dainik Bhaskar poll estimated 145–160 seats for the NDA and 73–91 for the Mahagathbandhan, adding that Jan Suraaj may not register a win, while others could secure 5–10. JVC-Polls projected 135–150 seats for the NDA, 88–103 for the Mahagathbandhan and 3–6 for others. Matrize forecast 147–167 seats for the NDA, 70–90 for the opposition alliance and 2–10 for other parties. People’s Insight predicted 133–148 seats for the NDA, 87–102 for the Mahagathbandhan and 3–6 for others. The Election Commission reported a turnout of over 68 per cent across 122 constituencies in the second phase, indicating strong participation statewide. Kumhrar has been a BJP stronghold in recent electoral cycles. In the 2020 election, the constituency had 4,27,427 electors and 1,50,744 valid votes. BJP’s Arun Kumar Sinha won with 81,400 votes. Dharamendra Kumar of the RJD came second with 54,937 votes, losing by 26,463. In 2015, Kumhrar had 4,08,418 electors and 1,56,067 valid votes. Arun Kumar Sinha retained the seat with 87,792 votes.
