Girija worried about AI-morphed vulgar photos amid viral fame

Girija Oak Godbole worried about AI-morphed vulgar photos circulating online amid viral fame: ‘My 12-year-old son will see these obscene images someday’

Jawan actress Girija Oak Godbole, who recently went viral as ‘The Woman in the Blue Saree,’ has addressed the disturbing side of her overnight social media fame. In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, the actor spoke openly about AI-generated vulgar images of her circulating online, calling the trend “sexualised, objectified and beyond comfort.”

‘It’s been absolute madness’

Opening her message, Girija admitted the last few days have been overwhelming. “What has been happening on social media for the past three days has been absolute madness. It’s crazy and great in equal parts,” she said, describing the sudden flood of attention. She thanked fans, friends and colleagues for their love. “There is so much love coming my way… messages, phone calls, memes—some of them are ridiculously funny and very creative,” she added.

‘Some images are AI-morphed and not in great taste’

However, Girija said not all of what is circulating online has been harmless.“Some of them are also AI-morphed images of me, which are not in great taste. They are sexualised and objectified beyond comfort, and this bothers me,” she stated. She acknowledged that viral trends often spark such content but questioned the lack of boundaries.“What is bothering me is that this game has no rules. And there’s absolutely nothing that is not allowed in this game.”

‘My son will see these images someday’

Speaking as a mother, Girija expressed deep concern about the lasting impact of such content.“I have a twelve-year-old son… eventually he will have access to these images. They’ll remain on the internet forever. These obscene images of his mother—he’s going to see them one day, and it worries me,” she said. She stressed that while viewers know these are fake, the “cheap thrill” they provide highlights a frightening digital reality.“This is scary,” she added.

‘If you consume such content, you’re part of the problem’

Girija said that while she cannot fully control the situation, she refuses to stay silent.“If you use AI to morph images of women or men into something inappropriate, think about it once. And if you simply enjoy viewing such images—you’re also part of the problem,” she urged.

‘If this brings more people to my work, what more can I ask for?’

Ending on a positive note, the actor shared that she is still grateful for the renewed attention.“If this translates into more people watching my films, my series or my plays, then what else could I ask for?” she said with optimism. Girija Oak Godbole is known for her acclaimed work in Marathi theatre and cinema, as well as Hindi projects like Taare Zameen Par, Ladies Special, Inspector Zende, and the blockbuster Jawan.
