NEW DLEHI: A brief commotion broke out during Bollywood playback singer Shreya Ghoshal’s concert at the Bali Jatra ground in Cuttack, Odisha, on Thursday evening, after an overwhelming crowd surge left one person injured, officials said, PTI reported. The situation turned chaotic when a large crowd surged towards the stage as Ghoshal appeared, prompting organisers to temporarily halt the performance. The show resumed after police brought the situation under control.According to officials, one person fainted amid the pushing and shoving and was taken to a nearby hospital. Thousands had gathered to watch Ghoshal’s performance on the final day of the Bali Jatra festival. However, Cuttack Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh dismissed reports of major unrest, saying, “There was no unpleasant situation. It is true that there was a huge crowd, but we managed it properly. One person sustained a minor injury and is stable.”Senior officers, including Singh, were monitoring the event from the control room and later reached the venue to ensure order. Police used public address systems to appeal for calm. The incident occurred despite heavy deployment — around 70 platoons (2,100 personnel) — for crowd management at the festival, one of India’s largest annual trade fairs.
