Red Fort car blast: EcoSport driver linked to bomber Umar detained — what’s his role?

NEW DELHI: Faridabad Police on Thursday detained the man who parked the red EcoSport in Khandwali, ANI reported quoting agency intelligence sources. According to agency intelligence sources cited by ANI, “the man who parked the car is said to be Faheem, who is also a relative of the accused bomber Dr Umar Un Nabi.” As part of the ongoing investigation, Delhi Police traced the red Ford EcoSport suspected to be linked to Dr Umar Un Nabi. The vehicle was located near Khandawali village after a lookout notice was issued, with multiple police teams across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana involved in the search operation. Investigators are also probing the role of a “white-collar terror module” after arrests connected to Al-Falah University in Faridabad. Dr Mohammad Umar Nabi, suspected to be driving the Hyundai i20 at the time of the explosion, along with Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Sayeed, were associated with the university. The institution, however, distanced itself from the case, stating it had “no connection with the said persons apart from them being working in their official capacities.” Meanwhile, CCTV footage of Dr Umar Un Nabi, the primary suspect in the Red Fort blast, captured near a mosque, has emerged. Investigators are reviewing the footage to track his movements as part of the broader probe. Sources told TOI that notebooks and diaries recovered from the lodgings of two Al-Falah University doctors linked to the plot suggest they had been planning multiple strikes for over two years. The Centre on Wednesday declared the blast a “terrorist incident” and directed agencies to pursue the probe with “utmost urgency and professionalism.” A powerful explosion in an explosive-laden Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening killed 13 people and left several others injured. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, reading out the Cabinet resolution and said, “The country has witnessed a heinous terrorist incident perpetrated by anti-national forces through a car explosion near Red Fort on 10th November… The Cabinet directs that the investigation into the incident be pursued with utmost urgency and professionalism, so that the perpetrators, their collaborators and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice without delay.” Police also detained Amit, a Faridabad-based car dealer who allegedly helped arrange the sale of the Hyundai i20 used in the blast. PTI quoted sources saying investigators are tracking the car’s ownership chain and how it reached those involved. In parallel, security agencies intensified raids at around 500 locations across Kashmir linked to terrorist associates and banned organisations such as Jamaat-e-Islami, amid intelligence inputs about attempts to revive networks under new fronts.
