US secretary of state Marco Rubio expressed condolences over the Red Fort car blast in the national capital, as revealed by external affairs minister S Jaishankar, after the two officials held a meeting. In a post on X, Jaishankar said he had a “good meeting” with Rubio, in which the Delhi Red Fort blast was talked about. Jaishankar also said that the discussion focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and supply chains. “Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi. Discussed our bilateral ties, focusing on trade and supply chains. Exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation and Indo-Pacific,” the EAM wrote. Delhi is on high alert following the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on November 10, which left at least 12 people dead and several seriously injured.Following the Delhi blast incident, the United States, on the day, had said that it was closely monitoring developments. “We are aware of the explosion near Red Fort in Delhi. We are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to provide consular assistance,” a US State Department spokesperson had told PTI. The two officials’ meeting comes during the two-day G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, hosted by Canada in Niagara-on-the-Lake near the US border. The meet is also being attended by foreign ministers from Canada, the US, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Japan. The gathering comes against the backdrop of ongoing global tensions — from the Ukraine conflict and the Middle East crisis to economic realignments in the Indo-Pacific.
