Bihar exit polls: No breakthrough for Jan Suraaj – what opinion polls predict for Prashant Kishor’s party

Bihar exit polls: No breakthrough for Jan Suraaj - what opinion polls predict for Prashant Kishor's party

NEW DELHI: Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), billed as Bihar’s newest political alternative, appears to have made little electoral headway according to exit polls for the assembly elections. Most agencies placed the party at zero to a handful of seats, suggesting that the high voter turnout and speculation of a silent shift towards Kishor have not translated into immediate seat gains. Surveys consistently showed the Jan Suraaj party trailing far behind the two main coalitions.

Clean sweep forecasts for NDA

Matrize forecasts a near-sweep for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), giving it 147–167 seats, the Mahagathbandhan (MGB) 70–90, and Jan Suraaj 0–2. People’s Pulse gives the NDA 133–159, MGB 75–101, and Jan Suraaj 0–5, again placing Kishor’s outfit on the margins.Bihar exit polls: Pollsters give big majority for NDA – follow live updatesPeople’s Insight projects NDA 133–148, MGB 87–102, Jan Suraaj 0–2, and others 3–6, while Dainik Bhaskar predicts a strong showing for the ruling coalition with 145–160 seats, MGB 73–91, and others 5–10. Across all major polls, Jan Suraaj does not appear to break out of low single digits.Dainik Bhaskar’s breakdown shows BJP 72–82, JDU 59–68, LJP (R) 4–5 and HAM 4–5, while for the MGB, RJD 51–63, Congress 12–15 and CPI(ML) 6–9. The projections underline the dominance of established players despite widespread political churn.

Highest turnout in Bihar’s history

Bihar recorded its highest-ever voter turnout in the second and final phase at 67.14% provisionally, likely to rise as queues were still seen at booths. Kishanganj (76.26%), Katihar (75.23%), Purnea (73.79%) and Supaul (70.69%) were among districts with the highest polling. Nawada recorded the lowest at 57.31%.Polling was conducted across 122 constituencies where votes for 1,302 candidates were sealed. Although Nitish Kumar is not contesting, the NDA has campaigned around his governance record, while the opposition INDIA bloc is banking on anti-incumbency and minority consolidation in Seemanchal.Disclaimer: Opinion polls are not always accurate.
