Jana Nayagan overseas rights sold for Rs 78 crore

Thalapathy Vijay’s 'Jana Nayagan' overseas rights sold for Rs 78 crore

Anticipation is at an all-time high for Thalapathy Vijay’s swan song, ‘Jana Nayagan,’ before he steps into the political arena, as foreign distribution rights soar to an unprecedented Rs 78 crore. Directed by H Vinoth and set for a January 9th release, the film’s first track has already made waves, shattering viewership records.

Thalapathy Vijay who over decades has established a huge body of work with his films is all set for his swansong; his final film Jana Nayagan before he embarks on his political journey. The film directed by H Vinoth is slated to release on 9th January and it is already setting benchmarks for its theatrical business. As per South Star- the overseas deal for the film has been sold for Rs 78 crore- the highest amount ever for Thalapathy Vijay’s film. Breaking down the number, North American rights have been sold for Rs 25 crore. Malaysian rights have been acquired for Rs 12 crore while the Singapore and Sri Lanka deal has fetched Rs 6.5 crore and the rest coming in from Europe and other markets. Past few films of Vijay have been a mixed bag at the box office one side he delivered his biggest hit in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo: Bloody Sweet which minted over Rs 341 crore in India and was all his biggest overseas hit but then he delivered The Greatest of All Time which collected only Rs 252 crore and was heavily criticized. But it would be interesting to see how Jana Nayagan performs at the box office. The makers recently released the first song ‘Thalapathy Kacheri’ of the film and it has broken all records, it crossed 10 million views in a matter of few hours and fans have already begun making reels on it for their social media platforms. The film features Pooja Hegde opposite Vijay and also stars Bobby Deol as the antagonist. It also stars Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Priyamani in pivotal roles. The film is clashing with Prabhas’s’ The Raja Saab’ his first horror-comedy film and his return to big screen after Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD. It would be interesting to see how two films with two huge superstars perform. One has mass connect and one is darling of the masses.
