‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ starring Sonam Bajwa and Harshvardhan Rane has continued to shine, not just against the Diwali release, Ayushmannn Khurrana starrer ‘Thamma’ that it clashed with. But surprisingly, it has maintained its hold even amidst newer releases in the consecutive weeks – like ‘Baahubali: The Epic’, ‘The Taj Story’ and more. The film has begun to see a drop but even a consistent number in the Rs 1 crore range everyday is quite useful at the moment. More so, since the other releases are also in the same category. Both ‘Thamma’ and ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ saw a huge drop in numbers on day 18, which is its third Friday and that also could be due to the number of screens reduce to accomodate the latest releases. Thus, ‘Ek Deewane…’ hit an all time low of Rs 70 lakhs on day 18. The second week total of the film came to Rs 16.3 crore. On Friday, day 18, the film made Rs 70 lakhs. However, it saw unexpected growth on Saturday, day 19 due to holiday. It collected Rs 1.25 crore on Saturday, thus taking its India net total to Rs 74.45 crore as per Sacnilk. Meanwhile, ‘Thamma’ which had also made only Rs 80 lakhs on Friday, saw a slight upward trajectory on Saturday, day 19 and made Rs 1.40 crore. The total collection of the Ayushmann Khurrana, Harshvardhan Rane starrer is now Rs 129.30 crore.
The combined Diwali total of around ₹200 crore nett combining the collection of both the movies, is underwhelming as per Box Office India, largely due to the underperformance of ‘Thamma’. While ‘Ek Deewana Ki Deewaniyat’ has punched above its weight, festive weekends are typically driven by the bigger release, and ‘Thamma’ couldn’t deliver on that front. Even so, this Diwali frame has fared better than Eid and Independence Day weeks, thanks to ‘Ek Deewana Ki Deewaniyat’ outperforming expectations.
