Supreme Court Orders Stray Dogs To Be Moved To Shelter Homes, Directs Civic Bodies To Form Patrolling Teams

The Supreme Court has issued a significant directive addressing the growing menace of stray dog attacks across residential societies and public areas. The court has ordered that all stray dogs be relocated to shelter homes and instructed municipal bodies to establish helpline numbers and form patrolling teams. These teams will identify vulnerable zones such as schools, railway stations, and bus stops, ensuring stray animals are removed, vaccinated, and housed safely. The court further emphasized the accountability of municipal corporations, panchayats, and other local bodies, directing them to appoint nodal officers to oversee compliance. If reports show negligence or failure to implement these measures, the Supreme Court warned it may take further action. This order expands upon previous rulings by balancing public safety and animal welfare aiming to resolve the long-standing issue of stray dogs and other stray animals roaming freely on streets.
