Satish Shah, one of the comedy legends of the industry, passed away on 25 October. To honor him, his ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ co-stars organized a touching musical prayer gathering. Ratna Pathak Shah, who played his wife on the show, shared memories of how Satish rarely showed his emotions, except for one rare moment when she saw him truly emotional.Joyful farewell and Satish Shah’s approach to lifeIn an interview with The Hindu, Ratna shared that the cast of ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ came together to sing the show’s theme song and joyfully celebrate their farewell to Satish Shah. She highlighted that Satish was worthy of such a vibrant tribute. According to her, the late actor didn’t merit sorrowful mourning or regrets over what was lost or what might have been because he embraced life wholeheartedly and met every situation with courage and humor.Satish Shah’s hidden emotionsShe further said, “I felt Satish maybe didn’t let his other side come out, even to himself. He probably never acknowledged that there was more to life than humour and smiling through everything. Sometimes it’s necessary to sit and cry, and I don’t think Satish ever allowed himself that. Maybe he did with Madhu, because she was with him every step of the way.”A rare moment of vulnerabilityRatna remembered the only occasion she saw Satish not his usual cheerful self, saying that the only time she saw him shattered was when Madhu fell ill long ago and needed blood transfusions. Everyone rushed to the hospital then. That was the only time they saw a Satish who wasn’t the cheerful one he showed the world. But maybe that wasn’t an act, maybe that was just his way of dealing with life. She told him a couple of times that he should look deeper within himself, but he wasn’t keen on going down that road.Details of Satish Shah’s final momentsOn October 25, Satish collapsed while eating lunch at his home in Mumbai. He was taken to the hospital, but the doctors said he was already dead. At first, people thought it was because of kidney failure, but his co-star Rajesh Kumar said it was a heart attack. Satish did not have any children and is survived by his wife, Madhu, who has Alzheimer’s disease.
