'My mom used to like her a lot on television': Aamir Khan shares story behind casting Sakshi Tanwar in Dangal

Aamir Khan revealed that Sakshi Tanwar was his idea for the role of Daya Kaur in Dangal, inspired by his mother’s admiration for the actress. He praised Tanwar’s professionalism and acting prowess, noting her ability to grasp and deliver subtle changes with heart. Tanwar expressed disbelief and gratitude for becoming part of the critically acclaimed and commercially successful film.

Aamir Khan, who starred opposite Sakshi Tanwar in Dangal, recently shared an interesting story about how he cast her as Mahavir Singh Phogat’s wife, Daya Kaur in the movie.

Aamir recalls how Sakshi came on board

His production house shared a video on its official social media handle where the superstar was seen recalling, “One day, I don’t know why, I thought of Sakshi Tanwar. When the scene was made, I was like, What have you done? I wasn’t expecting it at all.”

Elaborating further, he added, “Actually, Sakshi was my idea. My mom used to like her a lot on television, so I told Niteshji, ‘Should we try Sakshi ji?’”

Aamir praises Sakshi’s performance

Reacting to the same Sakshi said, “When I was told that this is the character, I couldn’t believe that this could also be a pairing. The actor then went on to praise Sakshi’s professionalism and acting ability. “She’s amazing. She’s a fantastic actress. You tell her small little changes, and she understands immediately and gives it perfectly. It’s not only skill; she does it with a lot of heart,” Aamir said.“It just happened on its own. Like different pieces of a puzzle coming together. One day, the universe decided to be generous, and I became a part of Dangal,” he concluded. Dangal also starred Zaira Wasim, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Aparshakti Khurrana and others. The film received immense love and appreciation from teh audience and the critcs alike. It also did some record-breaking collection at the box office.
