Bihar Politics: RJD Accuses BJP Of Divisive Rhetoric, Claims Alliance-Keeping Tactics

In a blistering attack on the ruling party, RJD leaders on Thursday accused the BJP of pursuing a ‘closed-room’ and divisive political strategy in Bihar, alleging that alliance-building had been accompanied by coercive tactics and inflammatory rhetoric. The party said that while Congress traditionally resists overt power grabs, some rivals within local coalitions allegedly seized opportunities to expand influence through questionable manoeuvres. RJD officials described the episode as a sordid contest played out behind shut doors rather than an open democratic debate. They also condemned language used by some national leaders during campaign stops as needlessly provocative and distracting from substantive policy issues. The RJD criticised what it termed a double standard: economic agendas such as factories, semiconductor projects, IT parks and data centres are foregrounded in other states, yet Bihar’s election discourse has reportedly been reduced to polarising symbolism. Party spokespeople urged voters to focus on governance, employment, rural development and social welfare instead of communal polarisation. The accusations have sharpened pre-poll tensions in an already tightly contested state, prompting quick rebuttals from BJP leaders and intensifying political rhetoric ahead of the first phase of voting. Election authorities have been urged to monitor rhetoric and ensure peaceful, credible polling.
