Paresh expresses disappointment for ‘Baburao’ not being explored much

Paresh Rawal is disappointed that his character Baburao from 'Hera Pheri' isn't explored much: 'There's tremendous scope, I'm bored..'

Paresh Rawal is known for a long list of character which have struck a chord with the audience, however, Baburao from from the ‘Hera Pheri’ franchise has remained the most popular. Recently, Rawal was also in the news for this character as he announced his sudden exit from ‘Hera Pheri 3’ and fans felt that nobody but him can do justice to the part. But the actor feels that this character has tremendous scope but isn’t being explored enough. Reflecting on his earlier remark about feeling confined by the success of his ‘Hera Pheri’ role, Paresh elaborated during a chat with Raj Shamani, “What happens is that just to please people, you keep churning out the same thing. When Raju Hirani made Munnabhai MBBS, the same characters were seen in different backdrops, and people enjoyed watching that. When you have huge characters with a goodwill of 500 crores, why don’t you take a risk and fly? Why are you stagnant? My contention was to do the character in different ways because we have an audience for it. If you give up your own advantage, what’s the point? We should not just keep doing the same thing. Baburao’s role dominates over many other good characters I have played; it is more affable.”He further shared, “I am told Baburao is more popular than RK Laxman. I feel bad when intelligent people churn out the same thing. I am bored because of this. The character has a tremendous scope; you will believe everything Baburao says.”Paresh also revealed that he has been offered numerous roles inspired by Baburao over the years but deliberately turned them down. “I have always said no to playing caricatures of Baburao. The demand keeps coming; everybody wants to cash in on it. Legally, it’s Firoz Nadiadwala’s property, so I cannot play the character legally in any other person’s film, so it’s a virtue out of helplessness.”Despite his reservations, fans will soon see him don the iconic glasses and dhoti once again in ‘Hera Pheri 3’. After briefly stepping away from the project due to creative differences, Paresh is now back on board alongside Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty, who will reprise their beloved roles as Raju and Shyam. The much-awaited comedy is slated to go on floors early next year.
