‘The Taj Story’ opened to a respectable Rs. 5 crore in its first weekend, with Sunday marking its highest earning day at Rs. 2.21 crore. Despite facing pre-release controversy with PILs alleging historical distortion, actor Paresh Rawal clarified the film is research-based and not intended to incite division. The movie features a notable cast.

The Taj Story had a decent start at the box office, earning Rs. 5 crore in its first weekend. After opening with Rs. 1 crore on Friday and Rs. 1.9 crore on Saturday, the film saw a jump on Sunday.

Sunday sees highest earnings

According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the film collected Rs. 2.21 crore on day 3, taking its total to Rs 5.11 crore. Its third day collection is the highest so far. The report also further stated that The Taj Story had an overall 40.78 percent Hindi Occupancy on Sunday, November 02, 2025.

Controversy before release

‘The Taj Story’ controversyJust before its release, ‘The Taj Story’ got caught in controversy as two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) were filed, seeking a ban on the film and a review of its certification. The petitions alleged that the film distorted historical facts about the Taj Mahal. Paresh Rawal spoke about the issue and clarified that the film was based on research and not meant to create division.

Paresh Rawal’s clarification

Reacting to the PIL, Paresh Rawal told NDTV, “That PIL wasn’t filed to stop the film. They just wanted the judiciary to watch it once. But the film already has a CBFC certificate. Even the judiciary understands all this; they’re not foolish. We never intended to create any Hindu-Muslim controversy. Would anyone invest so much money just to create communal trouble? You can cause a riot for far less!”Apart from Paresh Rawal, ‘The Taj Story’ stars Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Namit Das and Sneha Wagh in key roles.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
