Justin Trudeau dresses as Katy Perry’s ‘Left Shark’ for Halloween, sparking romance buzz

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has added fuel to speculation about his relationship with pop star Katy Perry after sharing a playful Halloween post that appeared to nod directly to her. Trudeau, 53, posted a photo on Instagram dressed as the “Left Shark”, the now-iconic character from Perry’s 2015 Super Bowl halftime performance, while posing with his youngest son, Hadrien, who was dressed as a surfer. The image, captioned “I’m the shark (to his left),” quickly went viral, with fans interpreting it as a light-hearted reference to his budding romance with Perry.

The “Left Shark” became a pop culture phenomenon during Katy Perry’s halftime show at Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, when one of her backup dancers in a blue shark costume famously went off-choreography, stealing the spotlight. By dressing as the same character nearly a decade later, Trudeau appeared to make a cheeky and affectionate reference to Perry’s career-defining moment.

In his Instagram caption, Trudeau added that he and his son built their costumes together, calling it “a little father-son Halloween teamwork.” The post, shared just days after his first public appearance with Perry, drew immediate attention from both fans and entertainment media.

A relationship in the spotlight

Trudeau and Perry made their first public appearance as a couple on 25 October 2025 in Paris, attending a cabaret show at the Crazy Horse to celebrate Perry’s 41st birthday. The outing came after months of speculation following sightings of the pair dining together in Montreal in July, which reportedly marked their first official date.Sources close to the couple told People that the two have been quietly dating since mid-2025 and have developed a strong bond despite their demanding schedules. “They both have busy lives but make time for each other,” one insider said. “Katy didn’t expect to fall for somebody so soon, but Justin checks all the boxes — he’s funny, charming, and treats her with respect.”

New beginnings after high-profile breakups

Both Trudeau and Perry entered the relationship after major personal changes. Trudeau separated from his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The former couple shares three children: Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien.Perry, meanwhile, split from Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, earlier in 2025. According to multiple reports, the singer has been balancing her global Lifetimes Tour with her new relationship, and Trudeau has been seen travelling to meet her at select tour stops. Go to Source
