Kalyani witnessed cultural impact of Lokah: Chapter 1-Chandra

Kalyani Priyadarshan on a heartwarming Halloween moment that made her realise the cultural impact of ‘Lokah: Chapter 1-Chandra’

In a heartfelt moment in Ireland, Kalyani Priyadarshan celebrated the remarkable success of ‘Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra’. A father excitedly shared that his daughter would embody the character of Chandra for Halloween. This sweet revelation moved Kalyani, underscoring the film’s powerful cultural impact and its ability to inspire young women around the world.

As Lokah: Chapter 1-Chandra made history at the box office with over Rs 300 crore haul globally , Kalyani Priyadarshan recently recalled a moment that made her truly understand the film’s emotional and cultural impact. The actress in her conversation with ETimes shared that while promoting the film in Ireland, she experienced something deeply touching. “We were promoting this film in Ireland as the film had done extremely well there. My schooling was in Singapore and then I went to New York to study. So, I’ve always felt disconnected to my roots here ( In India) . I’ve always tried to reconnect with them, but I’ve also half felt like I’m from here,” she said.Talking about her time abroad, she reminisced how Halloween was always a big celebration. “More than I’ve celebrated Diwali, I’ve celebrated Halloween in school and college,” she laughed. “So when I was there (Dublin), there was this father who had brought his young girl to get a picture. He told me that she was going to dress as Chandra for Halloween.”That one sentence, Kalyani said, completely changed her perspective on what her film had achieved. “For the first time, I realized the kind of cultural impact this character has had. Especially in the first few weeks of release, none of us had really registered what was happening with the film. But when I heard that, I was like, wow this has made an impact on young women.”Reflecting on that moment, she said it felt surreal as she would also get ready for the occasion, she said , “During Halloween you only choose to dress up as someone who connects with you or who’s iconic. And that ( Incident in Ireland) was the first time I sort of weirdly understood what this character had become..”Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra , produced by Dulquer Salmaan, directed by Dominic Arun is currently streaming on Jio Hotstar. It has music by Jakes Bejoy.
