Govinda-Sunita’s divorce rumours are just a publicity stunt

Govinda and Sunita Ahuja’s divorce rumours and affair talk are just a publicity stunt, says film historian Hanif Zaveri; 'There’s no need for Sunita ji to talk so much'

Superstar Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, have recently found themselves in the spotlight again amid ongoing divorce rumours. Earlier this year, reports claimed that the couple, married for 37 years, had separated. While both Govinda and Sunita clarified that they remain together, they also admitted to living separately for nearly 15 years.

“Govinda is out of news; this is made up for publicity,” says Hanif Zaveri

Senior author and film historian Hanif Zaveri, who has closely followed Govinda’s career, has now weighed in on the controversy. In a recent interview with Meri Saheli, Zaveri suggested that the constant chatter around the couple might be an attempt to stay in the limelight. He said, “First of all, I find it strange that Govinda didn’t speak to his nephew, Krushna Abhishek, for a couple of years because Krushna had mentioned a family matter in the media. Govinda didn’t want their personal issues out in public — and now, through his wife, everything is being spoken about. What is this?”Zaveri added that he doesn’t believe there is any real marital discord between the two. “I have known from the very beginning that there is nothing like that between them. They’ve lived a good life together, raised their children well. People are also realizing that there’s no need for Sunita ji to talk so much. I think this has been made up to bring them back into the news because Govinda is out of the limelight. He’s not active in films or politics anymore. So this is nonsense. I just want them to stay safe and together — all this talk doesn’t look good.”

Zaveri on Sunita’s comments about Govinda’s alleged affairs

Reacting to Sunita Ahuja’s recent remarks that Govinda flirted with many of his co-stars, Zaveri dismissed the claims of any real affairs. “Govinda’s name was linked with several actresses like Rani Mukerji and Karisma Kapoor, but I don’t think anything was ever going on,” he said.

He reasoned that if such rumours had been true, Sunita would have reacted back then. “Given Sunita’s outspoken nature, if there had been anything real, she would have created a ruckus at that time itself. I believe this is all part of a publicity stunt,” he stated.Zaveri also addressed the long-standing gossip around Govinda’s equation with Neelam Kothari. “Yes, his name was associated with Neelam because they did several films together. Such stories often came up in magazines just to promote films — it used to happen in those days, and it still does.”The historian, however, condemned Sunita’s decision to speak about other actresses publicly. “It’s not right for a wife to comment like this about another actress. Some of them are married now, and such talk can disturb their families. It’s a bad thing — not good at all,” he concluded. Go to Source
