In a post shared from the party’s official handle ‘DMK Arivalayam’ on X, the ruling party in Tamil Nadu alleged that the Central government, “through the Election Commission of India,” was using the SIR process to disenfranchise lakhs of voters. The post referred to Bihar, claiming that the voting rights of “over 65 lakh people” had been removed in the state through the same exercise.

DMK Vows To Safeguard Tamil Voters’ Rights

The post further stated that the SIR will now be implemented in Tamil Nadu, and that the DMK considered it its “major duty and responsibility” to protect the voting rights of Tamils. “To protect Tamil Nadu from the injustice called S.I.R. – and to ensure the party’s victory in every polling booth – a training meeting titled ‘My Polling Booth is a Winning Polling Booth’ will be held tomorrow (October 28, 2025) at 9:00 AM at the Confluence Hall on ECR Road, Mamallapuram,” the post said.

Stalin To Chair High-Level Party Meeting

The statement added that the meeting would be presided over by party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. “The meeting, presided over by the party president and Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru @mkstalin, will discuss how to carry out the necessary tasks, how to implement them, and how to coordinate and engage everyone, from the party leadership to the last-mile cadre, to execute them on the ground,” it read.

‘Let’s Protect The People’s Right To Vote’

In a call to action, the DMK post concluded with a rallying appeal to its supporters and the people of Tamil Nadu: “Let’s protect the people’s right to vote – let’s protect Tamil Nadu from autocracy!”

The statement comes ahead of a planned all-party meeting on November 2, to be convened by the DMK-led bloc to discuss the implications of the SIR and the party’s strategy to “safeguard democracy” in the state.
